Key's Keys- January 25th, 2025- WILLPOWER AND DIVINE ACTION

Hello Beautiful Souls!

This week’s newsletter is about WILLPOWER- and the spiritual process of taking balanced action - and how we might move through this with unprocessed (or in process) trauma resolution.

In last week’s newsletter I explained that TODAY (Saturday) is the celestial alignment of 7 planets- Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Mercury.
In astrology, planetary alignments are seen as moments of heightened energy and transformation, as the combined influence of multiple celestial bodies interacts with the zodiac. Each of the seven planets in this alignment carries unique symbolic meanings, and their alignment is believed to amplify their effects, creating a period of profound introspection, opportunity, and change. So it is purposeful that this topic of willpower comes to you on a day where planetary alignment is ripe for us to take intentional action. I find that we are sometimes held back internally in taking action, whether it be with our business, in relationships, releasing things/friends/circumstances that no longer serve us. And let’s be honest- this is totally understandable, letting go and surrendering to the unknown is terrifying. Remember, the purpose of the ego is to keep us safe, essentially to ‘keep us where we currently are since we know how to function here, even in times of difficulty’, because our past experiences are known, held in the subconscious, and form a picture or identity of how we move through the World. This same ‘picture’ facilitates the Ego to keep us in those known patterns, and resists moving us into the space of the unknown, because this is where change occurs. The Ego has no influence in co-creative spaces where we are in the new and where change is occurring, it can only serve us in familiar patterns, and often these have been sourced in trauma and many have emotions yet to be processed. This is why it can be so hard to take action- your nervous system holds the memory of pain and trauma and the ego uses it to keep you safe. The ego doesn’t distinguish whether keeping you safe is helpful or harmful to your life plan- it just knows that’s its job and it takes the role very seriously.

So HOW do we transcend this? My experience has been in reframing discomfort as being on the cusp of great transformation. Every time I feel myself stepping into profound resistance or catch myself wanting to bury how I’m feeling (urge to return to old habits- a puff, a glass of wine, scrolling) I now KNOW that I am super close to something shifting for me- and this has become EXCITING. I crave the unknown- I literally seek it in every choice I make, because I know it is how the Universe cloaks expansion, ascension, and the path to wholeness (healing). If we inherently KNOW that an act that bears great challenge, personal power, or courage will lead to positive transformation, then we are more likely to take said action. I know from personal experience that what I have said above is true- I have walked in the trenches of moving through resistance to create deep transformation and for me, this reframe really works. Not only is it fear that holds us back, it is our nervous system communicating and reminding us that that last time we were really uncomfortable we were also likely in physical, mental or spiritual danger (unresolved trauma patterns). We may have experienced physical abuse, narcissism, emotional manipulation, or perhaps even deep levels of grief or Ancestral pain that moved through our family line yet no one before us could transcend and break the pattern, or chain. If you are reading this newsletter, you are likely some form of a chainbreaker. If you think you might not be, I encourage you to look at your children and see how they are walking the earth. If they have challenged you, or see things differently than you, then you have succeeded. This has nothing to do with whether you view them as successful or not- they have their own path to walk. A change in behaviour is a change in patterning in the lineage- and often, post chainbreaking, it can be hard to find one’s way. If any of this aligns for you- then you are a chainbreaker. It is often in our perceived moments of failure that we realize what was done had to be done the way it was for things to unfold perfectly. There are other ways to know- you feel a call to live life differently than you have been…you have started to see multiple perspectives of a challenging situation and deeper meaning of it and your role in its unfolding….you ache to release victimhood….you WANT to heal. CHAINBREAKER.

3 tips for strengthening willpower and moving through resistance:

1) Start to work on discernment of what it feels like to feel the resistance in your body and while you have a direct line into it, actively remind yourself that you are safe. That the feeling you are experiencing does NOT mean you are in danger. Your trauma response from your childhood, coupled with the safety mechanism of your ego, will intentionally make it feel like imminent change, growth, or stepping into the unknown are dangerous. They are not. I will note here- if you are triggered so severely by the unknown or the new, so paralyzed that you move right into your trauma field and completely shut down, please seek professional help. It doesn’t have to be this way.

2) Set an intention or create a ceremony around your relationship with discomfort. Set up a new belief and affirm it daily: It is safe to feel discomfort, and it is safe to feel my emotions. Let them start to move up and into your consciousness, slowly, like a steeping cup of tea. Sit with your emotions from a place of neutrality. When you start to feel the resistance and just would much rather nap or distract or distance yourself from life, affirm that it is safe to feel this way, and start to unwind the belief that change or progress or the unknown= danger.

3) Step into vagus nerve practices and commit to finding resources to support nervous system regulation. Do yoga, walk mindfully. Try your best to become aware in the ways you shut down (Or fight, flee or freeze) and become consciously curious about the way you are. It isn’t right or wrong, and you certainly aren’t broken. It simply is how you are currently exhibiting your somatic history through your emotions and your nervous system. All things done can be undone when we decide this for ourselves.

The anterior mid-cingulate cortex (aMCC) is a brain region associated with willpower, tenacity, and the capacity to overcome challenges. Research indicates that engaging in tasks perceived as difficult or undesirable can lead to the growth of the aMCC, thereby enhancing an individual’s resilience and determination. Scientists are not calling it the seat of willpower, but perhaps more profoundly the seat of the ‘will to live’.

“The truth is that with regard to everything that has happened to you, the consequences can be undone. Think of what you have gone through in your life, especially traumatic experiences that feel almost impossible to heal. It is likely that if the experience of the thing itself didn’t repeat over and over (it likely did), then your thoughts about the event also have repeated over and over and over in your life. Your pain and emotions around the pain has created a specific filter that engages with the ego and works together to prevent that thing from ever happening again. We get stuck because we expect the pain to just….vanish. Healing means one day it is there and the next day it is not. Or trying to work through it a few (hundred) times should be enough, yet we can never seem to understand the onion that is the layers of unwinding required to actually heal. Healing is a sacred spiral.

Take the number of negative, painful thoughts you have gifted to your trauma and acknowledge that to heal it you must change the pattern and replace it by its opposite. Repeated thoughts, over and over again, of love directed back to the self and directly into the wound. Compassion for all parties involved. The willing ness to stick it to the ego and defiantly say NO- I will NOT stay in this victimhood- I can taste true freedom. True healing takes patience. It takes commitment to reprogramming yourself through an equal number of intentional thoughts of being healed and choosing the path of actually feeling your emotions than reflecting over and over again on the thoughts of victimhood. Healing isn’t for the weak- it’s for the warrior.”
